The U.S. Men’s National soccer team will return to Busch Stadium on September 10 to play fifth-ranked Uruguay. It will be the U.S. club’s final match before the Concacaf Nations League, which will in part decide which teams qualify for the next FIFA World Cup.
The game will mark Busch Stadium’s seventh time hosting a U.S. Soccer match in six years—all of which the U.S. has won. Most recently, the U.S. women’s team—including St. Louis native Becky Sauerbrunn—beat New Zealand on May 16 in the Send-Off Series leading up to the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Today, several members of the U.S. men’s team and head coach Gregg Berhalter were present for the announcement at Ballpark Village. Berhalter called Uruguay a “worthy opponent” and noted St. Louis’ strong soccer tradition. “St. Louis was one of the founding cities helping to grow the game in America,” he says.

Tom Ackerman, director of sports for KMOX, emceed the conference. “We know St. Louis is baseball heaven and the heartland of hockey,” he said. “But on occasions like today, we’re reminded that St. Louis has always been and always will be the soccer capital of the United States.”
Mayor Lyda Krewson and Cardinals president Bill DeWitt III, who were also in attendance, also noted the city’s hopes of soon welcoming a Major League Soccer team. “St. Louis has shown the world that we love our sports,” Krewson said.
The U.S. v. Uruguay game will start at 7 p.m. on September 10. Tickets go on sale July 31 at 10 a.m.
