Pastries at The Key Bistro are made in house (shown: fruit tarte, pain au chocolat, chocolate knot)
The following list is accurate as of an early-September press date.
Traditionally a slow month in the industry, August was unusually busy. Recent closures include the downtown location of Baileys' Range, Lulu's Local Eatery along the South Grand corridor, as well as 48-year Gregg's Bar and Grill, in the Near North Riverfront neighborhood. On the other side of the ledger, there were more than 20 openings if you count the ghost kitchens and satellite offerings that opened on Washington University's campus. Among the most notable additions: the French-inspired The Key Bistro (inside the Missouri History Museum), chef John Perkins' pivot to fried chicken–themed Sunday Best in the Central West End, and Juwan Rice's long-awaited Rated Test Kitchen, which softly opened downtown at month's end. And The Hill Food Co., a multi-unit concept capable of supporting 22 ghost kitchens, opened along the Hampton Avenue corridor.
Changes or additions are noted in full boldface.
