Scandal: When he divorced Ivie Lewellen Clay in 2009, she said she had only learned of the divorce proceedings through their children’s friends and in the media.
Early Political Job: During college, he served as an assistant doorkeeper in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Alma Mater: Clay attended Springbrook High School in Silver Spring, Md., and the University of Maryland, where he received a bachelor’s degree in political science. He also attended classes at Harvard University.
John Russell "Russ" Carnahan

Scandal: He voted for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in 2009, which led to his brother Tom receiving $107 million in federal funding for his Lost Creek Wind Farm alternative-energy facility.
Early Political Job: When he was 22, he slept on the floor outside of the secretary of state’s office in Jefferson City for five days to ensure that his father, Mel Carnahan, would be first on the ballot for Missouri treasurer.
Alma Mater: Carnahan attended Rolla High School and the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he received a bachelor’s degree in public administration and a juris doctor degree.
