Where to go ice-skating in St. Louis

St. Louisans can enjoy ice time across the region at these favorite indoor and outdoor options.

Ready for some wintertime fun? The St. Louis area offers many ice-skating rinks open to the public, offering plenty of opportunities to lace up the skates and do some laps with the family.

Winterfest at the Arch (500 Chestnut)

You’re sure to get excellent photos when you take the kids skating at Winterfest in Kiener Plaza. Skaters can rent heated igloos or s’more stations, and the St. Louis Blues have made skate rentals free for children every Friday. The rink is open from November 22–January 11. $15 skate rental for adults, $10 for children ages 3-15. Those who bring their own skates can skate for free.

Although the city’s iconic ice rink is closed for the 2025-2026 season, it’s due to major renovations destined to make Forest Park even more of a draw than it already is. The new “the Glade” project is described as a sustainable, community-led project to restore Steinberg Rink and transform its 22.5-acre surroundings into an all-seasons destination.

James J. Eagan Civic Center in Florissant (1 James J. Eagan)

If you’re looking for the feel of an outdoor rink with the cover of a pavilion, try the Eagan Civic Center rink in Florissant. This rink recommends family-friendly Saturday or Sunday daytime sessions for kids and beginners. $6 admission, $4 for Florissant residents, and $2 skate rental. Discounts are available for kids, seniors, and family residents.

Gather the family and tie on the skates for some ice time at a rink that’s open year-round. With dress-up learn-to-skate sessions to keep things fun, many kids have taken their first glides at this popular rink. This rink is a state-of-the-art house of hockey located in the Chesterfield Valley, but the general public is welcome to use its sheets for recreational skating on select dates. See website for availability. $10 admission, $2 skate rental.

East Alton Ice Arena in Alton, Illinois (631 Lewis and Clark)

Between daily public skate sessions, hockey, broomball, and learn-to-skate classes, this rink is a hub for ice-loving families all over the Metro East. The rink even offers a “Zamboni School” experience for those over 18 who want to try smoothing the ice for themselves. $6 admission and $3 skate rental. 

Wilson Park Ice Rink Granite City, Illinois (3000 Fehling)

This indoor/outdoor combo rink is in open air but sheltered by a beautifully timbered steeple roof, allowing for wintertime views of Wilson Park. The rink hosts public skate sessions Friday–Sunday from the end of October through the end of February. See the website for session times. $6 admission, $5 child admission, and $2 skate rental.
