Welcome to the inaugural issue of Design STL!
If this is the first you’ve heard about our new name, I encourage you to check out the table of contents for the May/June issue and see all that’s in store for you. In addition to giving our cover logo a makeover, we’re broadening the borders of our editorial content to give you more of what you love. You’ll see that some of our stories are now devoted to topics outside the typical shelter magazine terrain. Our intention isn’t to pull up stakes and abandon the house; instead, our goal is to highlight ideas that orbit the home and help define stylish living. From our standpoint, good design means more than decoration—it’s an expression of who you are and symbolic of what gives meaning to your life. It’s what you wear, how you spend your time, and the beauty with which you surround yourself. With this license to roam, we couldn’t be more thrilled about the people and the places that we plan to share with you.

Our cover featuring artist Lexie Morrison kicks off this exciting journey. You’ll be seeing more St. Louisans like her—fashionable, sporty, and undeniably talented—gracing our covers from time to time. In this issue, Morrison invites us into her Des Peres home, where she’s mixed influences from both coasts. With some guidance from Marci Marsh of Frill Home, she’s created an atmosphere of laidback comfort without neglecting the wow factor. Read all about Morrison’s vision and see for yourself why we couldn’t resist making her the talk of the town. Then, you won’t want to miss architect Brian Smith and landscape designer Matt Moynihan’s Clayton home, a place where antiques, modern furnishings, and cherished collectibles coexist in a naturally beautiful environment.
And for all you dog lovers: Take a look at our photo feature “Designer Dogs.” Photographed by Kevin Roberts and reported by Jen Roberts, the piece is proof that you don’t have to step too far outside the home to find (and love!) a design story.
