The Grinch has a bit of a PR problem—it’s true. He’ll be playing against type on Saturday, December 3, taking pictures, and raising money for the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, which your $7 photo fee benefits. He’ll be at the South Grand location of Apotheosis Comics and Lounge (3206 S. Grand), while various area businesses will offer free hot cocoa. December 3, 9 a.m.–1 p.m.
Start a cheerful day in St. Charles on Saturday with a screening of The Grinch at 10 a.m. at AMC Streets of St. Charles movie theatre (311 Lombard). Then, stroll the city, and take selfies with elfies and in front of the giant tree. Catch Santa for last-minute wishes between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Movie tickets are $5 or available for two donations to Oasis Food Pantry. December 3, 10 a.m.–2 p.m.
Visit a dozen of Lafayette Square’s beautiful houses on Sunday, December 4, for the 53rd annual Holiday House Tour. A $30 ticket includes carriage and trolley rides. The neighborhood starts getting festive Saturday with the Holiday Market Saturday from noon–6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. “Light Up the Square” also happens Saturday beginning at 5 p.m. at Fountain Plaza.
Enjoy another walkable neighborhood’s holiday pizazz in Maplewood on Friday evening. The 21stannual Maplewood Christmas Tree Walk lights the night. Businesses stay open with special offers, and carolers and horse-drawn carriages complete the quaint scene. December 2, 6–9 p.m.
