Over one weekend, you will try Pound, Piloxing, Zumba, Bellydance, Yin yoga. Cat yoga. Yoga outside the lines. Rock climbing. Kettlebell. Battleboxing. Core 3. Surf. TRX. Mat Pilates. Megaformer Pilates. Aerial. Heels. BollyX. Broadway dance fitness. Afroetics. And the Lindy hop!
OK, you don’t have to try all of it. But The Barre Hop is a great way to figure out what moves you. The event was the brainchild of Carly Niehaus, event coordinator at Central Studio, because Central’s theme this year is community. A dance and fitness studio on Pershing in the Central West End, Central will be the site for several of the weekend’s classes. For the others (more than 20 local instructors and studios are participating), you can construct a scavenger hunt for yourself.

The main point is, keep moving. “It’s important for your physical well-being,” says Niehaus, “and it connects you with the local fitness community and puts you in touch with something bigger than yourself.” She’s been working on Pilates movement and machines, and says the teachers and other students have been constantly supportive: “It’s amazing to have people in your life who are encouraging of your progress and ready to cheer you on as you work to better yourself.”
Confluence Kombucha, Perennial Artisan Ales, Narwhals Urban Ice, and other restaurants and vendors will be offering BOGO specials and discounts through the weekend.
