St. Louis County prosecutors filed felony assault charges this morning against a St. Louis city police officer, alleging he shot a man multiple times at that person’s home in Jennings.
Richard Booker was charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action for an incident that took place Wednesday. According to the prosecutor’s probable cause statement, Booker arrived at the victim’s home and got into a verbal altercation from the front yard. When the victim walked down the steps of his front porch, Booker allegedly fired three shots, all of which struck the victim.

The victim was taken to the hospital and the probable cause statement indicates the shooting was captured on video.
The case was investigated by the St. Louis County Police Department. Mary Schmitt with the County PD confirmed that Booker is a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department officer.
Booker, 53, was arrested last night and is currently in the St. Louis County jail. His bond has been set at $150,000, with 10 percent not allowed.
According to a public payroll database maintained by the Post-Dispatch, Booker has been with the SLMPD since 1993. He was making $112,638 a year as of last year.
“We are aware of a reported incident involving an off-duty police officer that occurred outside the City of St. Louis,” SLMPD spokesman Mitch McCoy says. “While we are unable to comment on this case specifically, accountability is critical in any situation involving a law enforcement officer.”
