U.S. News & World Report released a "Best Hospitals" report yesterday that recognized the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine as one of the top 10 cancer centers in the U.S.
The recognition is part of the overall ranking of Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University, which is ranked the No. 6 hospital in the country on the magazine's list.
Siteman is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in Missouri and the only cancer center to make the magazine's top 10 list. Last year, Siteman was ranked No. 16. Barnes-Jewish Hospital moved up five places in the listing and is the only Missouri hospital on the top 10 list.
Barnes-Jewish ranked in the top 15 in 15 of the 16 possible specialties.
U.S. News & World Report uses factors such as reputation, mortality rate, patient safety, nursing and patient services, and more to rank most of the specialties.
