Brewing Is Like Raising Kids
Sometimes you nail it, and sometimes things go [in] a different direction. Regardless of how well it turns out—or if it’s just a really good learning experience—at the end of the day we make the best beer and we make the best kids possible.
Parenting Motto
As a brewer I respect the saying, “Don’t serve dodgy beer.” Basically, work hard, do your best, and if something is wrong, work at it until you get it right.
Life’s Curveballs
We found out Jack had to wear a helmet for a year. [Jack was diagnosed at 11 weeks with craniosynostosis, a birth defect in which one or more of the joints between the bones of a baby's skull close prematurely, before the brain is fully formed.] We changed the narrative to ‘Cool helmet!’ Sometimes, less ruminating is the way to go.
Top Shelf
The helmets are all on a shelf in the boys’ room. My favorite is the Jek Porkins helmet.
Life Lessons
Leave the baggage behind, and don’t bring it into other interactions. Approach life passionately! And keep a cool head.
Free Time
We love live music, being outdoors, and spending quality time with extended family and friends.
A Day in the Life
Most days, I’m at the brewery by 7:15 a.m. Lauren is on the morning shift, and I pick the boys up about 5:30 p.m., start dinner, and then we decompress.
Fun Fact
I have three fully functioning kidneys.
Best Moments
Seeing the awe when [the kids] discover or experience something for the first time. Cuddles are pretty great, too!
Role Models
My dad and grandfather are my heroes.
