5 family-friendly destinations across the globe

In August 2017, Amy and Ronnie Jones sold their Maplewood home and set out on a multi-country journey with their boys, Ayden and Bastian. Here are some of their favorite spots.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur is a great family destination for multiple reasons: ease of getting around, lots of great attractions, parks and open spaces, level of interest for the kids… Don’t miss the Batu Caves (pictured here), where there’s a Hindu temple within a limestone cave system.

Mexico City, Mexico

In Mexico City, stop at the Chapultepec Castle, the only royal castle in the Americas and the home of an enormous public park that the family explored over the course of four days.

Reykjavik, Iceland

The family loved the waterfalls and black sand beach tours. “It’s the cheapest way to see these natural wonders,” says Amy, who also trekked to Everest base camp with the family last year.

Hoi An, Vietnam

The Joneses have enjoyed seeing some of the world’s most historic regions. In Vietnam, walk around the ancient town of Hoi An, an UNESCO World Heritage site.

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

You can’t help but be impressed by the Dubai Mall (the largest in the world) and the Burj Khalifa (the world’s tallest building, located on the same site).
