While cupcakes may not seem like a huge diversion from a wedding cake, they can make a trendy, memorable dessert option.
“We’ve had an increase in requests for wedding cupcakes in all of our stores,” says Ericka Frank, owner of The Cakery and co-owner of The Cup. “A lot of it has to do with the fact that No. 1, you can have lots of different flavors for guests to choose whatever they like, and No. 2, there’s no messy cutting of the cake involved.”

Many brides opting for the new dessert bar trend at their weddings, including handheld desserts like brownies and cookies, are adding cupcake towers to the mix. The general idea is the more desserts, the merrier—and the more likely to please all guests.
The basic flavors—chocolate, vanilla, confetti, and tuxedo—are the most popular wedding orders at The Cup, which is why they’re stocked at all of the bakery’s locations. But couples can customize their wedding orders, choosing from The Cup’s long list of cake flavors, fillings, and frostings—the perfect way to cater to food allergies or sensitivities, as well as certain tastes.
