Stone Soup Cottage in Cottleville has reached what can only be called “elite status” in the restaurant world.
Its dinner experiences—such as the upcoming five-course wild game dinner paired with Chateauneuf du Pape wines, which will be held January 19, 20, and 21—have become so exclusive and coveted, they can be announced on short notice (three days before Christmas) and ticketed early the following day (as in 7 a.m. on December 23, for anyone wishing to set an alarm).
Keeping with past tradition, the full menu and wine selections will not be disclosed until just before the time of ticket sale. And it doesn't matter: Each night—generally about 40 guests per evening—will likely sell out within minutes—or darn close—and at $295 per person, excluding tax and a 22 percent service charge ($383.35 per person all in).

It's hard to lasso the magic that Carl and Nancy McConnell have created at this locale, the second iteration of Stone Soup Cottage. The McConnells' hospitality is seamless, freewheeling, and second to none. In the summertime, guests enjoy pre-prandial cocktails on a sprawling patio overlooking field and pond. Come winter, the action is centered around a candlelit room and three stone fireplaces. In any season, Stone Soup is undeniably a splurge but an experience long remembered.
If you’re a fan of wild game—or want to give a really nice gift to someone who is—get up before 7 tomorrow morning, punch up Stone Soup's event page, and see what the hoopla’s all about.
