Dough Joe’s and Southern host a doughnut-and-fried chicken–themed brunch this Sunday
The event, from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at Southern in Midtown, will put the forthcoming food truck's fried cake doughnuts front and center while highlighting local ingredients.
The Lindell
Doughnut lovers and brunchers, mark your calendars: Forthcoming doughnut food truck Dough Joe’s and Southern are hosting a doughnut-and-fried chicken–themed brunch this Sunday, March 3, from 11 a.m.–4 p.m. (or sooner if the donuts run out.)
Hosted at Southern (3108 Olive) in Midtown, the event will put Dough Joe’s fried cake doughnuts front and center while highlighting other local ingredients.
Mad Root
The doughnuts are the backbone of two sweet and two savory menu items, priced from $2.95–$5.95. Among the sweet and savory options:
Mad Root: The sweet fried cake doughnut is drizzled with Fitz’s Root Beer glaze and topped with a scoop of Clementine’s Naughty & Nice Creamery Madagascar Vanilla Ice Cream.
Dark Forest Pecan: The sweet doughnut is covered in a glaze made from Urban Chesnut Brewing Company’s Dorfbier and Kakao Chocolate, and a layer of pecan crumbles.
The Lindell: The savory fried cake doughnut is topped with a mild chicken tender and drenched in gravy.
Midtown Maple: The savory doughnut's topped with Southern’s original tender and a Funk’s Grove Pure Maple Syrup glaze.
The two sweet dishes will also have suggested beverage pairings—Fitz's root beer and Urban Chestnut Dorfbier, naturally—for an additional fee.
Dark Forest Pecan
The event gives Dough Joe’s a chance to showcase its fried fare as it moves to get its food truck on the road. Last month, owner Joe Orf brought the doughnuts to Earthbound Beer for a pop-up preview. Fried treats at that event included the Cherokee Meteor (a baked cake doughnut covered with an Earthbound Beer glaze) and the Dutchtown Daddy (an old-fashioned doughnut drizzled with vanilla frosting and topped with crumbled Dad’s Cookies).
Orf is committed to using local ingredients in his doughnuts. He sources flour from The Mill at Janie’s Farm and gets other ingredients from St. Louis area businesses including Ozark Mountain Creamery and Brick River Cider.
Orf's also working with Treats Unleashed to offer a line of dog-friendly doughnuts as an homage to his dog, Zula.
Once the food truck is up and running, Dough Joe’s plans to sell beverages from local purveyors, such as Coma Coffee, Big Heart Tea Co., and Fitz’s Root Beer.
