April marks the third-year anniversary of Dubuque Coffee Company, dubbed “fast growing” and “underground” by founder and owner Charles Dubuque. Chances are you have enjoyed one of the company’s many roasts at an area restaurant, hospital, or casino without ever hearing its name.
Up until now, those who know the brand have had two ways to acquire the coffee: by visiting the roastery in Hanley Industrial Court and from the online store.
Beginning Thursday, all 25 area Dierbergs Markets will carry four of Dubuque’s most popular blends: Fleur de Lis (their flagship), Treize (a dark roast with natural fruity sweetness), Brasserie (medium bodied and toasty), and Café Noir (dark and smooth with low acidity). All roasts will be available ground (Fleur de Lis and Treize will also be available as whole bean) and sell for $8.99 per 12-oz bag, with frequent promotions and special pricing.
Approached by Dierbergs last December, Dubuque decided that now is the “right time to dip into retail.” Of the partnership, Dubuque said, “We’re grateful to Dierbergs. Their brand and way of promoting local fits our brand.”
When we visited the roastery in July 2016, Dubuque worked with 250 clients in 22 states. Today, the company now has 400 accounts across 24 states, 200 of them in the St. Louis area.
Some customers may still visit the plant to secure their coffee fix since customer service is one of Dubuque’s hallmarks, but for everyone who can stop by a neighborhood Dierbergs, you can experience the Dubuque coffee phenomenon this weekend while lounging on your couch in your pajamas.
