Orange Is the New Wine
Many people were told as adolescents that if they didn’t stop macerating, they’d go blond—or something to that effect. A similar admonition could be given to orange wines, which are made by leaving the skins of white-wine grapes are left on for at least 10 days, tinting the resulting wine in various hues of orange and giving them a flavor profile unlike almost all others. You can see and taste several of the seminal bottlings of the recent trend in orange wines from 4-7 p.m. on September 22 at the Clayton location of The Wine and Cheese Place.
Happy Hour at Trattoria Marcella
Well, it’s about time. Trattoria Marcella, which itself is now past legal drinking age, has a happy hour, offered Tuesday through Friday from 5–7 p.m. in the patio or the bar. The menu looks a lot like the one at Mia Sorella, whose own happy hour success inspired the launch at its sister restaurant. On the food side, it’s easy to cobble together a dinner; among other things, there’s a personal pizza (starting at $5), a bar burger (for $6), and such unexpected bar food as carpaccio ($6). And, of course, that’s not to mention the discounted drinks.
