Ask Veronica: What can I do with an old radiator?

Scrap it, sell it, or list it.

My first thought is to add a slab of marble to the top and turn it into a table. But my sense is that you’re hoping to reclaim the space for something else.

In that case, you have a few options to weigh.

To start, once a year St. Louis City residents can bring up to 12 loads of trash, yard waste, and bulk items, including old radiators, to the City Transfer Station. Be sure to plan: The station is closed Saturday-Sunday and a form of I.D. is required. County residents can reach out to World Metal Buyers in Fenton. Joy Christensen, an experienced local rehabber and developer, advises scrapping the radiator downtown at Southern Metal Processing on Broadway. SA Recycling on North Broadway also accepts metals in a range of shapes and sizes. Closer to home, you can place the radiator in the alley for scrappers to scoop up. They know its value in metal. Also, don’t forget to ask friends and neighbors. Some homeowners prefer to rehab houses with radiator heat and might be in the market for one. Lastly, don’t forget about Facebook Marketplace, especially if you prefer that the item gets picked up from your house. No hauling (on your part) required.
