Zachary Mione called on his entrepreneurial spirit and past work experience to open a new menswear store in Webster Groves. A native New Yorker and proponent of supporting local businesses, Mione moved to St. Louis a few years ago but found himself still shopping elsewhere for clothes. “People are wearing this stuff in St. Louis… Where are they getting it? They’re either buying it when they travel or online,” he says. Webster Dry Goods is Mione’s answer to men’s shopping needs. He draws customers in by selling brands, such as Marine Layer, Alex Mill, and Long Wharf Supply Co., that don’t already have a presence in this market. He named the store, in part, after Rudolph’s Dry Goods, a locally owned workwear store that operated in the same location in Old Webster for 54 years. In the design of the new space, Mione set aside an area for gathering, TV watching, and enjoying a beverage at the bar—fostering a sense of community, he says: “I want people to come in and feel comfortable enough to ask for water for their dog or to use the restroom without having to buy something.”
