Mar. 1-31: Morpho Mania

  • What: Surround yourself with thousands of blue morpho butterflies from Costa Rica. With their 6-inch wingspan that appears almost neon-blue as it flashes through the sky, witnessing a sea of blue morphos is truly mesmerizing. Learn about butterflies’ critical role in nature, how they use camouflage, and how to help protect the blue morpho’s native habitat. 
  • Where: Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House
  • When: Mar. 1-31, 9 to 4 p.m. (The Butterfly House will be closed 3/2, 3/9, and 3/30.)
  • Price: Member and Resident, free; $8 general admission

Mar. 7: The Art of Placement

  • What: Visitors are invited to experience the Museum differently—not just looking at the art but looking at how the art is arranged and displayed. This tour explores how the gallery layout, lighting, sight lines, and even negative space between artworks shape our experience of the art.
  • Where: Saint Louis Art Museum
  • When: Mar. 7, 1 to 2 p.m.
  • Price: Free

Mar. 8: See STL: Walking Tour Benton Park

  • What: Named after St. Louis’s second-oldest park, the Benton Park neighborhood is filled with dreamy 19th-century architecture . With an ambitious preservation effort currently underway, it’s also a neighborhood on the cusp of exciting change. Sites include a former city cemetery that’s now a park, a recently discovered cave that once housed a beer garden, and one of St. Louis’s most storied homes. 
  • Where: Benton Park: The tour is 2 hours long and wheelchair accessible. Tour starting/ending points are included in booking details.
  • When: Mar. 8, 12 p.m.
  • Price: $17 for MHS members; $22 general public

Mar. 13: Design Your Herb Garden

  • What: Expand your edible landscape with the addition of delicious, easy-to-grow herbs. Kathie Hoyer will share how to successfully grow herbs, including when to start seeds, where and when to plant, along with how to trim culinary favorites like rosemary, basil, thyme, and sage for use in your favorite dishes.
  • Where: The Studio at Bowood
  • When: March 13, 2 to 4 p.m.

Mar. 13-15: International Gem & Jewelry Show

  • What: Founded in 1967, the InterGem is the country’s longest running, direct-to-consumer jewelry show. This show will feature a unique marketplace with rows and rows of quality merchants and attractive prices. From one-of-a-kind creations to loose gemstones, beaded strands, pearls, watching and estate jewelry and more, discover your next rare and/or everyday pieces. 
  • Where: Gateway Center in Collinsville, IL (Center Hall & Ballroom)

Mar. 14: The Webster Groves Herb Society

  • What: The Society invites visitors to stop by their table to learn more about herbs, as well as the organization, in the Jack C. Taylor Visitor Center. Included with Garden admission.
  • Where: Missouri Botanical Garden
  • When: Mar. 14, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Mar. 14: Creating a Fragrant Garden

  • What: Gardening for fragrance is a forgotten art form in gardening, but fragrance is a special sense that tells a story from our past selves and helps us to create brand new memories. We will go over plants with the absolute best fragrance, including peonies and lilacs, to ones that are less known, such as Dianthus.

Mar. 15: Speaker Series: The Skouras Brothers and the Making of the Immigrant American Dream

  • What:  Dr. Mike Tsichlis explores the life of the Skouras brothers, three Greek immigrants who discovered the American dream in St. Louis. The Skouras brothers, driven from their home in Greece in 1910, sought opportunity in the United States. As they worked in hotels in St. Louis, the Skouras brothers looked for ways to make their mark. Eventually, they found their chance and went on to become major motion picture moguls during the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema.

Mar. 17: Thrift Flip: Button Downs

  • What: In this workshop, students will learn how to tailor and rework thrifted button-downs into new, wearable garments. Using basic sewing techniques and creative design choices, transform everyday finds into something you will love to wear—and keep good clothes out of the landfill. Shirts will be provided but students can bring their own, too.

Mar. 17: Mahj at the Kitchen: Beginner Lesson 2

  • What: From Mahj with a Twist, join Janine and Tracy, trained American Mah Jongg instructors, for a 90-minute lesson in learning the timeless game of Mah Jongg. Beginner Lesson 2 is great for those who have completed a Beginner Lesson 1 or already know the basics of Mah Jongg and want to grow in confidence. In this session, take a deeper dive into the Charleston—the exciting passing sequence that sets up your hand—learning how to make smart passing choices and recognizing strong tile combinations.
