Hometown favorite Wilco did not disappoint the packed crowd at Stifel Theatre Thursday night during the second-to-last concert of their Tour to Infinity. The fans, who spanned all ages, milled about in the beautiful lobby catching up with one another until just before Wilco strode onto the stage at 8:30 p.m.

For the next two-plus hours, the well-honed band consisting of lead vocalist/guitarist (and Belleville native) Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt on keyboards/guitar, guitarist Nels Cline, multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, keyboard player Mikael Jorgensen, and drummer Glenn Kotche mesmerized and delighted the die-hard fans.

The hazy glow of the lighting befitted the gauzy, grumbly opening number, “Infinite Surprise,” from Cousin. The night was mainly full of material from the band’s last two albums, Cousin and Cruel Country, but they of course pulled in familiar favorites such as “A Shot in the Arm” and that little song about Laclede’s Landing, “Heavy Metal Drummer.”

The band added a bonus encore with “Casino Queen” and wrapped up with “Spiders,” which prompted a long clap-along and garnered a chuckle from the oft-staid Tweedy to close out the night.
