Performance Artist

Music: Yo-Yo Ma’s cello pieces, classical opera, and total silence. I just returned from taking my daughter to college and drove 14 hours, 12 of which were in absolute quiet.

Inspirations: [German performer] Pina Bausch, the writings of John Steinbeck, Anton Chekhov’s plays, and beautiful artwork—especially paintings by Francis Bacon, Egon Schiele, and Henri Matisse.

St. Louis Hangouts: Northwest Coffee Roasting Company and La Patisserie Chouquette.

Places to Visit: Greece, Turkey, Japan, Bali.

Collaborations: The Andy Warhol piece Silver Clouds, with his silver balloons, at the Museum of Contemporary Religious Art, and the site-specific piece for La Cité Radieuse, the Le Corbusier World Heritage building in Marseille, France.

Recent Work: I’ve been working on a piece for a number of years that I am just finishing. It’s a little bit dark and more edgy than things I have done previously. It doesn’t yet have a title. I fall over and over—108 times.

Fashion Designers: Comme des Garçons, Marni, Rick Owens, The Row, and Jil Sander.

Local Fashion Designer: Skif International’s Nina Ganci.

Outfit: The dress is by Skif, and the boots are by Steve Madden. I temporarily appropriated the boots from my daughter.

Advice: Someone recently told me that when you have something difficult to overcome, all you need is time, distance, and patience.
