Local cat rescue partners with Cinema St. Louis for “Cat Clips” competition

Third Degree Glass Factory hosts the film-meets-felines fundraiser for Animal House Cat Rescue and Adoption Center on Thursday from 6:30–10 p.m.

Listen, we all know why the internet was really invented: for sharing cat videos. The good folks at Animal House Cat Rescue and Adoption Center are capitalizing on our innate urge to record and share the antics of our feline overlords at the third annual Cat Clips: A Competition in Cuteness fundraiser, this Thursday from 6:30–10 p.m.

The competition, presented with Cinema St. Louis, pits submitted videos against one other for prizes and glory, with proceeds from the event benefitting Animal House. “It’s a celebration of the beautiful relationship we have with our pets,” says Brandyn Jones, founder and executive director of the rescue. “It’s not about being a cinematographer; it’s about showing what’s going on with you and your cats. It’s capturing special moments, and by special I don’t necessarily mean the most heart-warming.”

Jones says a favorite past video was brief, evocative, and oh-so-familiar to anyone who lives with cats: It was a 4-second shot of a chair with a bowl of cat food next to it—a single paw shot out from under the chair and yoinked the vittles. This year, keep an eye peeled for a video of a similar-size cat and dog having a friendly wrestle.

The all-cat rescue has been operating for 12 years. “We are the folks who take cats with nowhere else to go,” says Jones, adding that the rescue houses cats for as long as needed and strives to see them adopted into the ideal forever home—more matchmaking than simple adoption.

Thursday’s event at Third Degree Glass Factory includes screening the contenders and learning the panel of judges’ call on the winners. There’s also a raffle, silent auction including glass artworks, a food truck, movie snacks, and beverages from Urban Chestnut. Tickets are $20.
