Veena Myneedu believes that food and drinks have a way of bringing people together. As the owner of Dumont Creamery & Café in Chesterfield (17408 Chesterfield Airport), Myneedu has worked to create a welcoming place where families, students, and neighbors can connect over coffee, boba, and ice cream. Myneedu says the relationships that she has built with regulars are the most rewarding part of the job. She hopes the shop will become a neighborhood staple for years to come.

What motivated you to get involved in this work/community/activity? I’ve always believed that food and drink have a unique way of bringing people together. Chesterfield is such a vibrant, tight-knit community, and I wanted to build a welcoming space where people can connect—whether that’s families celebrating over ice cream, students studying with a boba, or locals grabbing their daily coffee. Being a small part of those everyday routines and weekend treats is what keeps us motivated every day.
What values or principles guide how you show up in this role/community? Belonging and connection are our guiding principles. We aim to be more than just a place to grab a drink or dessert. We want to be a reliable neighborhood anchor. Creating an inclusive, comfortable space where students can study, friends can catch up, and families can build memories is how we measure our success
What’s the most enjoyable aspect? Without a doubt, it’s the people and the relationships we build. Seeing our regulars walk through the door, watching kids come in after sports games, and getting to know the neighborhood on a personal level is incredible. Being a consistent, bright spot in someone’s daily routine or weekend routine never gets old.
Can you briefly share a few standout memories? Opening our doors for the first time and seeing a line of local families out the door is a memory I’ll never forget. After months of recipe testing, prepping, and getting the space ready, seeing the community turn out to support us was overwhelming in the best way. That day set the tone for everything we’ve done since.
Can you share an insight about this role that most people don’t know? Most people see the final product—a polished drink or a pretty scoop of ice cream—and assume the work happens in that moment. In reality, about 80 percent of what we do happens long before a customer walks in. From inventory tracking and flavor development to equipment maintenance and temperature monitoring, there’s an enormous amount of quiet logistics required to make a five-minute visit feel seamless and fun.
What’s one key piece of advice you’ve embraced? “Stay present and stay adaptable.” Running a hybrid shop means no two days are ever identical, and unexpected curveballs are guaranteed. Embracing flexibility has allowed us to roll with the daily challenges, stay creative with our offerings, and keep our main focus right where it belongs: serving the community and keeping things fun
What’s the greatest challenge? Balancing the unique seasonal shifts of our menu! While coffee is a daily constant, ice cream demand skyrockets during warmer months, and boba stays steady in between. Managing inventory, staffing, and prep schedules to match those shifting rushes—while ensuring wait times stay low and quality stays high—is a continuous balancing act, but it keeps our team sharp.
Where do you find inpiration? Honestly, right here in the shop! Seeing a child’s face light up over a cone of ice cream, watching students gather over boba after school, or chatting with our coffee regulars every morning is what fuels our creativity. Our customers constantly inspire us with their enthusiasm, flavor requests, and support. They make us want to keep raising the bar.
What are your future plans or ambitions? Our biggest ambition is simple: to become a timeless neighborhood staple that Chesterfield families cherish for years to come. We want to keep honing our craft, investing in our team, and maintaining the highest quality so that kids growing up here today will one day bring their own families back to Dumont Creamery!
