Fans flock to Forest Park each fall for an eclectic soundtrack, as Langenberg Field transforms into a veritable jukebox during the Evolution Festival. An array of acts—hiphop, rock, funk, country, blues, folk, and more—play across two stages in a picturesque setting, near Pagoda Circle and The Boathouse.
In 2024, big-name acts included Beck, The Killers, Billy Idol, Jane’s Addiction, Elle King, Nile Rodgers & Chic, and native sons Son Volt, among others. And in its inaugural year, 2023, the fest hosted Brandi Carlile, The Black Crowes, Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, Brittany Howard, Ice Cube, The Sugarhill Gang, and more. The diverse lineup attracts a wide range of fans—more than 25,000 came in 2023.
Beyond the music, there are other draws: culinary demos and dishes from top chefs, craft cocktails and a beer garden, a local vendor marketplace, and an eye-catching art gallery featuring St. Louis artists. Much like other beloved local festivals, Evolution Festival makes for a memorable weekend and embodies the metro area’s vibrant offerings.
As festival organizers Steve Schankman and Joe Litvag said, “We are committed to creating a dynamic and inclusive experience that celebrates music, food, and community.” It’s an experience that seems destined to grow over time and foster more memories in the years to come.
Perhaps Carlile put it best: During the fest’s inaugural year, as a sea of fans cheered in the park, near a willow tree that also seemed to sway in the moonlight, Carlile stood on stage and said, “I hope everyone has something as beautiful in their life as what I see right now.”
