The Spa at Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis is in the midst of a full-scale renovation that reimagines the space not simply as a spa, but more broadly as an intentional, evolving wellness experience. At the heart of the redesign is a guiding concept inspired by the four elements: earth, air, fire, and water.
When the spa first opened 18 years ago, it became a popular urban retreat, a place to relax and indulge in moments of calm amid downtown life. But over time, the team began to feel that the space needed a story.

“There was no real concept,” explains Director of Spa & Wellness Erin Stewart. “Before we even knew renovations were coming on, we wanted to build a story. It’s been years in the making.”
From the physical space to the guest journey, the transformation will be noticeable. “From a product standpoint, it will be a completely different experience,” Stewart says. “It’s intentional, as far as the colors, the transition, and the way it’s set up.”

The four elements provided the foundation for the design. Ever-evolving by nature, the concept allows the spa to shift and grow. “It can constantly change,” Stewart says. “It won’t go out of style because you can always evolve within it.”
There will also be changes to the services offered, with new treatments, to be announced soon, inspired by the elements and designed specifically for St. Louis. Stewart adds that the wellness offerings will expand beyond traditional spa experiences, reflecting a more holistic approach. The team researched everything–from the products and layout to the choreography of the services–ensuring the experience feels both intentional and deeply personal.
“We can truly say that it’s ours,” Stewart says. “My team created it. There’s an ownership to it.”
New food and beverage offerings will also be introduced, further extending the spa experience. While the same trusted team members will return, the delivery is planned to feel more refined and personal.
“This is my vision coming to life,” Stewart reflects. “Working with designers and contractors–it’s a huge opportunity to be given that level of trust. Seeing this coming to life and being able to say that I was a part of it from start to finish is what excites me most.”
The spa is currently closed for the renovations, and the renovated spa is expected to be completed by the end of April. Reservations are already open, inviting guests to be among the first to experience this thoughtfully reimagined retreat.
