There are no excuses. Whether it’s golfing, running, or yoga, there is no reason not to stay active this August. This month’s rundown has everything you need to get fit and have fun doing it.
August 1 – Zumba

We all know this trendy fitness craze, but who has the guts to try it? This Zumba class is less than ten bucks and lets you have fun and lose weight at the same time. From 6 to 7 p.m. at the Simple Fit Life, a personal training studio on St. Charles Rock Road, you can enjoy an hour of gut-shredding cardio while learning some new moves.
August 2 – Yoga and House Made Soda and Bowood Farms
Attention fellow yogis, we got another YogaBuzz event. It’s $15 for a drop-in class of healing yoga with a side of herbal soda. The class begins at 10:30 a.m. and includes one hour of yoga and one herbal soda created from the herbs grown on Bowood Farm’s green roof.
August 2 – Yoga and Beer at Schlafly Tap Room
Yoga and alcohol—it just works. In the Club Room at Schlafly Tap Room, $20 gets you one hour of all-levels yoga and one pint of your choice. Proceeds benefit Yoga-Buzz and St. Louis Brewers Guild. Join in on the fun from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Schlafly Tap Room.
August 3 – Yoga and Cocktails at Square One Brewery and Distillery
More boozy yoga? Yes please! Your $20 admission fee includes one hour of all-levels yoga and a housemade cocktail at Square One Brewery and Distillery from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
August 3 – FOOD ROOF SunSET Yoga: Session Four
Last chance for this gem of a fitness event! Urban Harvest STL’s FOOD ROOF Farm project grows organic, healthy food for underserved communities in St. Louis. The Sunset Yoga event offers a unique chance to enjoy the city from a different perspective and learn more about FOOD ROOF Farm with a guided tour of the rooftop farm at the end of the class. Tickets are $20 and the event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at FOOD ROOF Farm.
August 3 – Marathon and Distance Running Workshop
Calling all runners! This is a free marathon and distance running workshop led by Tim Cary, assistant training manager and coach from Fleet Feet, and Dr. Randal Aaranson, podiatrist from Orthopedic Associates. They will be discussing and demonstrating the evaluation, treatment, and prevention of running-related injuries. The talk will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fleet Feet Sports in Des Peres.
August 4 – Yoga and Beer at Six Mile Bridge
Prepare to sweat. YogaBuzz will be offering their first hot yoga class for $10 at Six Mile Bridge Beer from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Bring your own mat, but the beer is on them!
August 6 – barre3 at Athleta Plaza Frontenac
This new and exciting fitness trend combines the benefits of yoga, pilates, and ballet for the ultimate balance, strength, and flexibility workout. And barre3 St. Louis and Athleta have paired up to bring us a sneak preview of what is to come when barre3 opens their studio in Creve Coeur. It will be a saturday morning filled with shakes, shopping, and, of course, barre. The event is free to attend and will be from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Athleta. Don’t forget your yoga mat!
August 6 – Discover Health Coaching and Training
If becoming a health coach is your game, then this is for you. It is a free event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the May Community Education Center, that offers information on how to become a health coach, acquiring and supporting clients, and becoming a leader.
August 6 – 6th Annual Warrior Support Run
The proceeds from this 5K and one-mile fun run/dog walk will be donated to local veterans organizations including the Wounded Warrior Project. It costs $30 to participate, and all are encouraged to bring “man’s (or woman’s) best friend” along. It will go from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Carondelet Park.
August 6 – Race for Smiles
The Greater St. Louis Dental Hygienist Association is hosting this run to raise awareness for the prevention of oral diseases. Registration is $30 for adults and $25 for children. The race begins at 8 a.m. in Tower Grove Park.
August 6 – Bulltown Run for Backstoppers
It’s another run for a cause. Registration is $40 and proceeds benefit the important work that the Backstoppers do, primarily providing needed financial assistance to families of fallen first responders. This twilight 5K will begin at 7 p.m. at the Antonia Ball Fields in Imperial. Participants will be treated to pizza after the race.
August 6 – Music of the Night 5K Fun Run/Walk
An award for best themed glow-in-the-dark attire? Sign us up! For this race, your path will be lit with the soft glow of tiki torches and the musical stylings of music staff and students. Admission is $30, and the run begins at 8 p.m. at Carriel Junior High in O’Fallon, Ill. Show your support for music in O’Fallon schools while getting fit with this fun run/walk.
August 7 – Yoga and Brunch at The Caramel Room
Nothing says “I’m fancy” like yoga and brunch combined. $35 gets you another round of yoga and brunch at The Caramel Room. From 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. YogaBuzz is hosting an all-levels yoga class followed by the fanciest brunch you ever did see that will include mini quiches, donut holes with chocolate drizzle, and mini smoothies. Yum!
August 12 – Forest Park Forever Golf Tournament
This golf tournament is an all-day affair, from 12 to 7 p.m. at the Probstein Golf Course. A fee of $100 covers one golfer’s place in the tournament, a boxed lunch and a dinner, as well as a chance at some awesome prizes—including a car!
August 13 – Yappy Night Dog Walk
My dog and I are both bored of our regular walk around the block, so what better way to switch things up than with the Yappy Night Dog Walk. Enjoy a four-mile stroll through Queeny Park’s trails from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. All dogs must be leashed, and don’t forget your flashlight and insect repellent.
August 13 – Community Lifeline Golf Tournament
Stonewolf Golf Club is hosting a golf tournament to benefit the Family Resource Center, an organization that provides services to seniors, youth, and teens in east St. Louis. Admission is $100 for one player or $400 for four players and includes 18 holes, use of golf cart, a chance at cash prizes, lunch and a buffet dinner. Tee time is at 1 p.m.
August 13 – Strides for SIDS
The proceeds from this 5K and one-mile run walk at Creve Coeur Lake will help fund programs and services of SIDS Resources. There will be memorial dove released in remembrance all those babies taken too soon. Admission is $25, registration is at 7 a.m., and the run/walk starts at 8:30 a.m.. From 9:30 to 11 a.m. all are invited to participate in a number of fun activities for kids and families.
August 13 – Wash MO Mud Run
Getting dirty never felt so good. This good old fashioned romp through the mud will demand everything you have. It’s five miles of mud and rugged terrain, including 15 challenging obstacles. The first heats will take off at 8 a.m. at the Washington Fairgrounds. Admission is $100 per person and gets you the run of your life, an after party, t-shirt, cold beverage, and live entertainment. Proceeds go to YMCA programs that support youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility in our community.
August 13 – Diva Dash 5K and Lil Princess Fun Run
Admit it, there is a little diva in all of us. Celebrate womanhood (or girlhood) with the Diva Dash 5K and Lil Princess Fun Run. Admission is $36-$40 for divas or $12-$15 for lil’ princesses, and includes a race shirt, custom bib, and a large metal for finishers. The race kicks off at 8 a.m. at The Muny in Forest Park. Make it a girls day out.
August 14 – Garden Gallop 5K
Join the young friends for a fun run through the Missouri Botanical Gardens from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., before the garden opens to the public. There is no clock, no medals—just fun. It is $30-$40 to register, and participants will receive running shirt at check in.
August 14 – Splash Bash
Please mom, let’s get in one more splash! The pool at the Pavilion at Lemay will stay open late to celebrate the last week before many kids go back to school fro the year. There will be prizes, crowd games, and concessions. All are welcome from 6 to 8 p.m. Pool admission applies.
August 14 – Bag Toss Tourney
Now this is a game I have a chance at winning. It’s $30 per two-person team to participate in this afternoon of fun at The Loading Dock in Grafton, Ill. The tournament starts at 1 p.m.
August 16 – Yoga and Beer at The Biergarten at AnheuserBusch
Another boozy yoga comin’ our way. This Yoga buzz event will go from 6 to 8 p.m. at the indoor Biergaten. Your $20 admission fee includes one hour of all-levels yoga led by a certified YogaBuzz instructor and a pint of your choice of beer.
August 19 – The Glow Run
We have been waiting all year for an excuse to turn ourselves into a walking or running rainbow, and here is our chance. It’s an ’80s-themed glow run challenge zones throughout the course. A fee of $30 gets you a run, a glow-in-the-dark shirt, super glow necklaces, entry into a costume contest, and a finish line party. The race kicks off at 8:10 p.m., don’t miss it.
August 20 – 53rd Annual Moonlight Ramble
It’s known at the “world’s original nighttime bike ride.” The 53rd Annual Moonlight Ramble begins at 12:01 early Sunday morning at Ballpark Village. But get there early for other shenanigans. The registration fee is $25 and not only gets you a leisurely bike ride through the streets of St. Louis but also free samples in a vendor area, entertainment, a t-shirt, and an after-ride party.
August 27 – Dance Your Pounds Off
You probably heard about Dance Your Pounds Off on Ellen or Dr. Oz. Bring your best moves for this as seen on T.V. dance workout led by Dwight Holt, Jr., as a part of his Fitness and Empowerment Tour. He is bringing his moves to Kirkwood, so get your tickets before they sell out. Admission is $10 to $25, and the event will last from 2 to 5 p.m.
August 28 – I Love Forest Park 5K
Let’s all do our part to support a place that is close to our hearts and our homes, Forest Park. It’s no surprise that this is one of the most beautiful runs in the region as it includes scenery of The World’s Fair Pavilion, Art Hill, Emerson Grand Basin, and more. Because of Forest Park’s partnership with Now 96.3, a DJ will be playing music all morning to keep everyone motivated. There will be an expert-led yoga based warm up at 7 a.m., and the race starts at 7:30. It costs $25 to register.
August 29 – Loving Hope Golf Outing
This golf outing benefits the Brooking Park Charitable Care Program. There will be a nine-hole scramble in the morning and in the afternoon. Admission is $50 per golfer and $200 per foursome. A BBQ lunch and beer will be provided for all golfers. This will be an all-day event, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Four Seasons Country Club, so bring your sunscreen and your “A” game.
August 30 – Wildflower Walk: Steinberg Prairie
Come test your plant knowledge or learn about the diversity of plants that are native to Forest Park. It is 11.5 miles of easy walking trails from 5 to 6:30 p.m. that is free for anyone to enjoy. The group will meet at Steinberg Skating Rink Parking Lot.
