House Beautiful named this nearby pumpkin patch one of the country’s best

It’s actually three farms in Illinois.

Interiors magazine House Beautiful is dipping a toe in the outdoors, publishing a list of the 16 best pumpkin patches in the United States to visit this fall on its website. We can’t argue with one of their picks: the Eckert’s trifecta of locations in Belleville, Grafton, and Millstadt. Here’s what the authority on all things beautiful had to say about the Illinois farms:

For more than 175 years, the Eckert family has been farming the land and tending their orchards. Visit them at one of their three farm locations in Illinois (Belleville, Grafton, or Millstadt) or at their orchard in Versailles, Kentucky. During autumn, you can pick pumpkins (and bring your well-behaved pooch!), while the rest of the year, you can pick-your-own in-season produce such as peaches, blackberries, and apples. There’s a restaurant, fresh donuts, and a new cider shed at the Belleville location, where you can sample different types of hard ciders from sweet to tart.

House Beautiful also named Midwest patches Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm in Lockport, Illinois, and Schaake’s Pumpkin Patch in Lawrence, Kansas, to the list. Illinois produces more pumpkins than any other state; in 2020, the state turned out 564 million pounds of orange gourds, according to the USDA.

No Missouri pumpkin patches made the cut, but options abound. For St. Louis Magazine‘s list of 10 pumpkin patches to visit this fall, see our story here.
