Classic board game MONOPOLY to launch a special St. Louis edition

Mr. Monopoly is requesting recommendations for the local landmarks, businesses, and nonprofits that should have a place on the board.

Don’t pass go: St. Louis is getting its own MONOPOLY game.

A family tradition if there ever was one, the first MONOPOLY game hit shelves in 1935. Now, game-maker Top Trumps USA has official plans to debut MONOPOLY: St. Louis Edition, under license from toy and game company Hasbro, after Halloween of this year.

As a way to honor the city and its residents, the company is seeking local insight into which landmarks, businesses and nonprofits should be included. This means the classic Atlantic City squares will be swapped out for spots that hit a little closer to home.

“St. Louis is such a unique community with rich history. We aim to ensure that MONOPOLY: St. Louis Edition is an accurate portrayal of what St. Louis locals and tourists love about this charming city,” said Katie Hubbard, a Top Trumps representative, in a press release. “From City Museum to historic Gateway Arch, we would love for everyone to get on board and email us recommendations of their favorite organizations and landmarks around town.”

“I’m an avid Monopoly player and I’m happy this global brand has recognized the brilliance of St. Louis,” said Mayor Tishaura O. Jones in the release. “What an amazing source of pride!”

Upon its release, the game will be available in stores and online at retail partners, including CVS, Amazon, and select local retailers.
