Hang on to your tall, striped hats! It’s time to celebrate what would have been Dr. Seuss’ 112th birthday at The Magic House, which is teaming up with the Nine Network to show kids that reading is fun—and, as Seuss might say, “It is fun to have fun, but you have to know how.”
Kids will be able to meet the Cat in the Hat and his friends Thing 1 and Thing 2 during the party. (Parents, get those camera phones ready.) Children can also make their own Dr. Seuss hat and hear local celebrities read from their favorite Dr. Seuss books.

“The Magic House believes in the power of reading to not only entertain children, but also to foster a lifelong love of learning,” says spokesperson Carrie Hutchcraft.
The festivities are included with admission to The Magic House. If you donate a new Dr. Seuss book ($5 minimum value), then one child under 12 can get in free with a paid adult admission. All of the books collected during the party will be donated to First Book–St. Louis, an organization that provides books to low-income children.
Every year, the National Education Association encourages children to celebrate reading on March 2, Dr. Seuss’ birthday. More than 50 million parents, kids, and teachers will join in this year’s Read Across America celebration. This year, the association is highlighting Dr. Seuss’ newly discovered book What Pet Should I Get?
