Sugarfire Smoke House opening new location in Farmington this Sunday

It’s just the first in a series of new locations slated to open this year.

Sugarfire Smoke House is expanding yet again: This Sunday, a new location will open at 670 Walton in Farmington.

“We are beyond excited to bring Sugarfire to Farmington,” co-owner LeAnna Johnson said in a statement. “This community has been hungry for uniquely crafted barbecue, and we look forward to delivering it with creative flair and friendly banter.”

Like the preceding locations, the fast-casual joint will serve brisket, pork, ribs, boozy milkshakes, and an array of memorable sides.

Local beverages will also be on hand, including St. Louis craft beers and soda from Midwest-based Excel Bottling. The menu will also feature a jalapeño-and-cheddar brat from Ste. Genevieve-based Oberle Meats.

Sugarfire co-founder/chef Mike Johnson’s cousins Charles and Patrick Johnson will helm the new location, and Farmington native Kaitlin Derby—a pastry pro who will offer house-made pies and cookies—will oversee the kitchen alongside Ethan Parker, with assistance from Haleigh Danielely.

Like Sugarfire’s other locations, the restaurant is full of whimsical touches. Fire-print walls line the entrance, and a bucking bull in front of the restaurant is covered with Farmington-inspired scenes of cows, pastures, and a fish-filled stream.

Inside, the main dining area will seat 60 diners, and a semi-private dining room will accommodate another 24 patrons. A large pig-shaped sign near the entrance will let diners know which dishes are sold out for the day. Local artist Brandon Warren has also created comic book-style artwork, including a mural of Sugarfire’s popular Big Muddy sandwich.

And Sugarfire isn’t stopping with its Farmington location: The restaurant has plans to open locations in Indianapolis, Denver, O’Fallon, Illinois, and Cape Girardeau. It will also be part of the mix at The Boathouse in Forest Park when it reopens later this year.

Editor’s Note: This article has been updated to reflect that one of the forthcoming locations will be in O’Fallon, Illinois, rather than O’Fallon, Missouri.
