Southwestern breakfast taco restaurant BLT to open downtown

BLT, which stands for breakfast, lunch, and tacos, will take over the former The Kitchen Sink space.

A Southwestern breakfast taco joint is coming in early June to the Convention Center area. The location at 626 N. Sixth was last occupied by The Kitchen Sink, which closed in June 2017.

BLT, which stands for “breakfast, lunch, and tacos,” will serve “St. Louis food with Southwestern flair,” owner James Heredia says. Heredia hails from El Paso, Texas, and says he wanted to bring the flavors of his home state to the Midwest. His partner in the business is Joshua Powlishta.

Initially, the restaurant will focus on breakfast and lunch while it waits for its liquor license to be approved, Heredia says. BLT will bring hatch green chilis from New Mexico to craft its dishes, which include the aforementioned tacos and jalapeño cheddar biscuits and gravy. It will also partner with Kaldi’s Coffee to serve brews with its breakfast fare.

“People can sit down, have high-speed internet, use their laptops, and have breakfast or lunch with coffee,” Heredia says.

Once BLT’s liquor license goes through, the restaurant plans on having a happy hour with live music and a full bar from 4 to 9 p.m.

Heredia and his team decided to open the restaurant in the Convention Center area because they wanted to target the business and tourist crowds. Even though BLT will be walk-in only when it opens, it could add deliveries in the future, Heredia says.

“We’re looking to deliver to office buildings as well,” he says. “It could be two breakfast tacos and a cup of coffee delivered for breakfast.”

BLT will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for breakfast and lunch.
