After reports surfaced this week that Side Project Brewing (7458 Manchester) was planning a major expansion into St. Charles’ Frenchtown neighborhood, brewery co-owner Cory King says there is currently “nothing new to report.”
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday that Side Project planned to open a tasting room, outdoor patio, and food truck pavilion in a commercial building near North Second and North Main streets in St. Charles.
But in correspondence with St. Louis Magazine, King said the building referenced in the report was purchased two years ago and that neither he nor the brewery was aware the property would be discussed during a St. Charles City Council meeting. SLM has reached out to the St. Charles City Council for comment.
“There is currently nothing new to report,” King said via text.
King also confirmed that no plans are currently moving forward regarding the site.
The Maplewood brewery, founded by Cory and Karen King in 2013, has become one of the most acclaimed breweries in the country. In both 2020 and 2023, Side Project Brewing was ranked the No. 2 brewery in the world by RateBeer for its barrel-aged beers and small-batch releases. Earlier, in 2015, sister project Side Project Cellar received a James Beard Award nomination for Outstanding Bar Program.
