Hi-Pointe Drive-In is a hot new concept from the owners of Sugarfire Smoke House

The sandwiches at Sugarfire Smoke House are either emblematic (the $10 Sandbag sandwich, free to first responders and anyone displaced during a recent flood) or whimsical (the Cow Tipping is made with smoked tri-tip). Co-owner Mike Johnson’s now-legendary griddled cheeseburger has won several competitions, so a sandwich/burger spinoff was as predictable as a flat highway in Kansas. The outrageousness continues at Hi-Pointe Drive-In, a high-energy fast-casual 100-seater (50 inside, 50 out) cobbled together from former shipping containers, unfinished wood, and quilted stainless steel. The signature burger (made from chuck, brisket, and rib) is all-natural, all-Angus, and altogether wonderful. The 10 standard sandwiches boast hand-carved meats and such surprises as crispy Funyuns. There’s even a Greens & Grains salad. And it was certainly no surprise to see boozy add-ins for the slushies and milkshakes, because this place is a celebration—and possibly the high point of your day.
