Lion’s Choice is launching a new kid’s menu item created by chef Katie Collier of Katie’s Pizza and Pasta Osteria to help a local nonprofit.
Collier’s new menu item, the Turkey Dipper sandwich with roasted turkey and Provel cheese on oven-baked flatbread with marinara dipping sauce, beat out creations from three other top St. Louis chefs in a competition in February for Operation Food Search, a local organization that helps feed children across the metro area.
Among other area chefs to take part in the friendly competition, chef Rick Lewis from Grace Meat + Three made a Kiddy Croque Monsieur with ham and mac n’ cheese on Texas toast. Chef Loryn Nalic from Balkan Treat Box made a cheese flatbread with Balkan flavors such as ajvar, a red pepper topping. And chef Qui Tran of Mai Lee and Nudo House made a Kids’ Banh Mi with pulled pork and hoisin sauce. Local children voted for their favorite among the dishes.
Collier says her young daughter offered inspiration for the dish. “I definitely had my daughter’s tastes in mind when thinking of a potential item for the kids’ menu at Lion’s Choice," she said. "I kept things simple and focused on Lion’s Choice’s delicious ingredients to appeal to the kids.”
The Turkey Dipper will be available for $4.39. A portion of the proceeds will go to Operation Food Search. Guests can also make a donation to the nonprofit at the drive-through.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Operation Food Search, and now more than ever, it’s important to support their work to end hunger in the St. Louis metropolitan area,” Lion’s Choice President and CEO Michael Kupsta said. “It was so fun to see the culinary community come together to have a little fun with us and take on some brutally honest kid critics for a great cause.”
