Bobo Noodle House Has a New Owner

Kary Lockwood buys the seven-year-old U City restaurant from Zoe Robinson

By the time you read this, Bobo Noodle House will have a new owner. But not much else will be new, according to Kary Lockwood, who takes over the space this morning.

Lockwood, a former St. Louisan and daughter of retired TV news anchor Karen Foss, has moved back to St. Louis from Alton, Ill, where she owned and operated State Street Market (a wine bar and restaurant in the historic Lincoln Hotel), for six years before selling it last July.

Lockwood is a longtime friend and former employee of Robinson. “I was there when the original Café Zoe opened in Lafayette Square,” she reminisced. “I was Zoe’s first bartender…and as I recall, at the time we didn’t even have a bar…”

Her desire to move back to St. Louis and get back into the business dovetailed with Robinson’s plans for a new restaurant project, resulting in Lockwood’s acquisition of Bobo.

“Nothing will change, I can promise you that,” Lockwood said of the trendy-yet-timeless restaurant  that won SPACE Architecture + Design an AIA Award in 2009 for restaurant design. “Customers will not notice the difference.”

And while Bobo continues to enjoy a solid reputation as a go-to dining/delivery spot for neighbors and students in the Wash U/Skinker area, Robinson says the restaurant will benefit from having an on-site owner. “It will only get better,” she said.

For Lockwood, it’s already pretty good. “It’s my daughter’s favorite restaurant…for her it’s a dream come true,” she said before pausing. “Same goes for me.”
