801 Chophouse

This swanky steakhouse chain is a dinnertime splurge, but during happy hour, it offers great deals, including $2 oysters on the half-shell, $4 jumbo shrimp cocktail, $5 prime filet sliders and more. For drinks, enjoy $8 cocktails, $5 beer and discounted wines.

801 Fish

Clayton may be in the heart of the Midwest, but at 801 Fish, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were on the coast. Its impossibly fresh seafood is a draw during its generous happy hour, where you can nosh on everything from $9 Old Bay fries and $4 jumbo shrimp cocktail to $10 fish tacos and $19 mini lobster rolls. Mixed drinks range from $6-$8, domestic bottles are $4 and wines by the glass are half off.

The BAO

A stylish Asian-fusion spot offering handcrafted cocktails and contemporary bar fare, the BAO offers a large happy hour menu that includes discounted sake, beer and wine, as well as $5 bao and snacks like popcorn chicken and gyoza.

Bar Napoli

A modern stylish lounge to neighboring Cafe Napoli’s elegant Italian dining room, Bar Napoli is the quintessential Clayton see-and-be-seen gathering spot. During happy hour, the place is packed with post-work revelers who come for the discounted drinks and appetizers and in-crowd vibes.

Bistro La Floraison

Bistro La Floraison

Acclaimed restaurateurs Michael and Tara Gallina’s elegant, yet approachable, bistro is a transportive trip to Paris thanks to its outstanding French cuisine and stunning decor. Every night from 5-6 p.m., the restaurant transforms into Spritz Hour where $11 spritzes, $9 wine and N/A selections and $6 beer are the perfect accompaniment to delectable small bites like a French onion financier, citrus marinated olives and positively addictive gougeres, which are $3 a piece.

The Capital Grille

Monday through Friday, Capital Grille’s swanky lounge turns into a festive affair, known as “Capital Hours.” $8 wines, $10 cocktails and a variety of delectable lounge plates like cast-iron garlic shrimp lamb lollipops and caviar and caramelized onion dip are all available. The restaurant even offers a lounge plate portion of its signature Kona-crusted strip steak for $16.

CJ Muggs

A longtime Clayton gathering place, CJ Muggs has the everyone-knows-your-name feel of Cheers with the upscale bar and grill you’d expect from a Clayton eatery. During happy hour, enjoy 25 percent off of all food items and $2 off all drinks.

Five Iron Golf

Five Iron Golf

This premier golf lounge is a high-tech, state-of-the-art experience for golfers of all levels. The perfect place to gather with friends, Five Iron Golf’s happy hour is one of the best deals in town with $5 wings ($10 for the boneless version), $5 dips like guacamole and hummus, half off pizzas, and a variety of drink specials like select $5 shots, beers, and cocktails.

Flight Club St. Louis

If your idea of playing darts involves dive bars and cheap beer, the upscale Flight Club flips that notion on its head. For happy hour, enjoy discounted wine ($9), beer ($6) and cocktails ($6), as well as small bites like truffle parmesan fries, four cheese flatbread and buffalo chicken sliders.

Herbie’s

If Clayton had a Cheers, it would be Herbie’s, the elevated mainstay with a cozy, old-school bar that’s legacy dates back to the esteemed Balaban’s. A wonderful restaurant in its own right, Herbie’s offers on of the most popular happy hours in town with discounted wine, beer and cocktails, 25% off bottles of wine and delectable European-inflected seasonal American cuisine like oysters on the half shell, bone marrow canoes, charcuterie and flatbreads.

High Bar

High Bar

Located on the rooftop of AC Hotel St. Louis-Clayton, this refined hangout spot boasts stunning views of the city from its birds-eye perch. For happy hour, the bar offers $2 off beer and wine; the regular cocktail and food menu are also available.

Ivy Cafe

What began as a daytime cafe specializing in creative tartines has developed into one of Clayton’s most charming eateries, complete with excellent coffee drinks, pastries, small and large plates and a thoughtful bar program. Happy hour includes $8.50-$9.50 craft cocktails, $10 small plates like hummus and salmon skewers and discounted bottles of wine.

J. McGraugh’s Bar & Grill

A classic downtown Clayton watering hole, J. McGraugh’s is the embodiment of the sort of bar and grill you want next to your office. Standard happy hour specials include $1 off wine and beer, though look out for pop-up specials like discounted appetizers and other drink specials from time to time.

Louie’s Wine Dive

Don’t let the name fool you; Clayton eatery is anything but a dive bar. Its focus on interesting varietals and top-tier labels makes this one of the best places to enjoy a glass (or bottle) of vino with a seasonal menu that’s the perfect pairing. Happy hour is impressive: From a rotating selection of discounted glass pours to $7-8 dollar wines and a wonderful menu of inexpensive small plates, Louie’s is the place to be. Bonus points that happy hour is a daily affair.

Oceano Bistro

Known for its fresh seafood, happy hour includes an expansive offering of small plates like Maryland lump crab cakes or umami kobe sliders. Pair your noshes with a generous 8-ounce wine pour for $7, a $5 beer or $10 signature cocktail.

Seven Restaurant

Located inside the quaint Seven Gables Inn, Seven is the perfect tucked-away happy hour spot; when weather permits, its lovely European-style courtyard is the perfect place to enjoy its generous specials, which include 50 percent off wine, beer and cocktails, as well as appetizers-for-two specials.
