The Cherokee Street renaissance continues apace, as charming bookstore The Archive is moving to a new spot, and the new tenant, Red Guitar Bread, poises to move in.
Red Guitar, you may recall, is one Alex Carlson, avid student of yeast and supplier of artisan loaves to the Webster Groves Farmers’ Market, The Mud House, Big Sky Cafe, Salume Beddu, The Block, and Entre: Underground.

Red Guitar has announced on its Facebook page that they begin moving in to 3215 Cherokee St., a stone’s throw east of Gravois Avenue, this week. Followers of Carlson will remembver that the boutique baker had been doing all his baking at Five Bistro, but announced last October he’d be taking some time off while he sought out a place of his own. That time is nigh.
In an email to Relish, Carlson added that “My permit and build out process will get underway tomorrow, and I’ll be building a wood fired brick oven as soon as the permits are written. As of now I don’t have a terribly firm open date since there are still a ton of variables, but I’ll definitely be updating the Facebook page with news.”
We’re very much looking forward to tasting his “smoked whole wheat” loaf and other complex carbs, fresh from his very own oven.
