Aficionados of onion rings should hie themselves forth to Larry Lampert’s Plush Pig BBQ and dig into their handmade onion straws. A serving arrives in a large bowl lined with paper towels, which showed minimal oil spotting; the onions are thinly cut, lightly battered and forthrightly seasoned. Served almost smoking hot, they’re dangerously irresistible, and impossible to stop nibbling, no matter how much they cool.
We’ll save the rest of the menu (the barbeque, the fried chicken, the fried fish) for another time, but meanwhile, the idea of cold beer, onion straws and a football game on the television is just right with us. But evening hours are apparently about to change, so call first.
