The vision for the two- and three-story townhomes at the Artizen was to “create architecture of lasting positive consequences,” says architect Joel Fuoss of Trivers, a local firm specializing in historic renovation and adaptive reuse projects. The development’s 13 units, all of which include a private outdoor space, range in size from 2,000 to 3,400 square feet, and feature tall windows, high ceilings, and open floor plans. Built atop three vacant lots at the intersection of West Pine and North Sarah in the Central West End, the location offers a blend of quiet, residential character and access to shops, restaurants, and cultural institutions. Although the massing gives the appearance of a single building, says Fuoss, each unit is its own separate townhome with no common walls. The mix of exterior brick size, color, and texture mimics the look of nearby low-rise buildings; the interior courtyards, made of a permeable paver system, provide access to off-street garages, contributing to the streamlined frontage. The units first came on the market in 2023 and are typically designed with a main-floor primary bedroom, two- or three-car garages, and some hold space for an elevator.
