Recently Logged Trips: Mumbai, Jaipur, and the Kerala backwaters in India
Airport Dress Code: Dark jeans, a lightweight full-sleeve blouse, a soft pashmina shawl, a lightweight jacket, and my favorite Prada loafers that I found in Prague.
Jet-lag Cure: Lots of cups of chai and masala scrambled eggs, followed by a jog through the Mahalaxmi racecourse in Mumbai.
Hotels: The Taj Palace in Mumbai, where my husband and I were married many moons ago; Narain Niwas in Jaipur; and Coconut Lagoon in the Kerala backwaters.
Favorite Street Food: Punjab Sweet House in Bandra has the most delectable panipuri. The chaat and jalebi are mouthwateringly delicious as well.
Favorite Shopping Bazaars: I love [Mumbai’s] Chor Bazaar for antique furniture, lighting, and bric-a-brac. And the silver markets in Jaipur and Sanganer are a constant source of inspiration and ideas.
Jewelry Shops: Amrapali store in Jaipur and the Juhu flagship store in Mumbai have an amazing selection of silver and gold jewelry. Ask for vintage pieces as well, which they showcase in the back for select customers.
Home Store: Goodearth is India’s version of ABC Carpet & Home, with exquisite china, home accessories, and jewelry. Anokhi is another favorite for block-printed blouses, caftans, and linens.
First-Time Visitor’s Itinerary: A night in Delhi with a visit to the Janpath Market and the Red Fort, then off to Jaipur for two nights. Don’t miss the Amber Fort and Palace, the City Palace, Hawa Mahal, and the markets on [Mirza Ismail] Road. Hot Pink is a great boutique on the grounds of Hotel Narain Niwas. A visit to Gem Palace is a must for an exquisite selection of jewelry. Then off to Udaipur for a stay at the Oberoi Udaivilas or the Lake Palace Hotel, in the middle of [Lake Pichola], to explore the City Palace, Saheliyon-ki Bari, Lake Pichola, and the myriad temples in the area.
