When Sarah Rhim discovered that the space next to the store she co-owns with her husband Simon was empty, she saw an opportunity to revamp the 57-year-old brand, separating Mister Guy Women’s into now Mister Guy and MG Women. Started in 1962 and in St. Louis since 1976, the clothing store Mister Guy and MG Women now sit next to one another at 9811 and 9817 Clayton in Ladue.
“It wasn’t a big move and shouldn’t be confusing for the customers,” Rhim says, adding that they decided to make the transition after Shine Boutique moved further down the street, opening the space next door up. Construction began in May, and the shop opened earlier this month. “It was just a great chance to we were planning to renovate the spaces anyway. But when this opportunity came up, we took it.” So the team moved the women’s store by racks to the space next door, giving the men’s area another 400 square feet and a reason to expand the selection.

Over the years, Rhim says, Mister Guy Women’s has done several updates, but she feels the time had come for a rebranding. “It needed a completely modern look for customers,” she says. “Our customers are really savvy, and they shop beautiful stores all over the world. We invest a lot of time to pick the merchandise that we bring in. We care very deeply about the brands and items that we choose to display. We wanted an aesthetic that would match the product and show it off in the best way—for the modern luxury shopper.”
Among the lifestyle store’s men’s and women’s clothing—including suits, dresses, sportswear, shoes, and more—the inventory now includes such contemporary brands: as Luigi Bianchi Mantova, L.B.M. 1911, BARBA Napoli, Magnanni, Brax, J Brand, Faherty Brand, Peter Millar Collection, and Jack Victor.
“We are always looking to bring new folks into the store,” Rhim says of the brand’s future. “We love seeing fresh faces. Now we’re in a stage where the next generation of people’s kids and grandkids are starting to shop with us, so it’s exciting to see the next generation of shoppers coming to us for their needs.”
