It’s safe to say that these historic andirons have stood the test of time. They were hand forged by prominent St. Louis architecture firm Maritz & Young, which built more than 100 homes in neighborhoods across the area during the early 20th century. Their provenance has been documented to the 1920s—specifically, in a monograph written by the architects that shows them inside W. Ridgely Young’s residence. They eventually made their way to Kyrle Boldt III of Century Design, who specializes in collecting Midcentury Modern pieces. “They’re beautifully executed,” he says. “The scrolls and points are so fine. It took a real craftsman to make them.” $4,500.
