Photo Finish: Markell and Katelyn started dating at Mizzou. (They met because he was friends with her roommate.) Flash forward to the early stages of the pandemic, when they began to practice Markell’s hobby of photography to get out of the house. He told Katelyn that he was entering a couples photography competition and had her get dressed up to take shots in Forest Park. Then he took her to a beauti- ful abandoned church that was set up with rose petals, photos of the couple—and a big sign that read, “Will You Marry Me?”
Ceremony & Reception: Both the ceremony and reception were at Wild Carrot, in the Shaw neighborhood. They exchanged personalized vows beneath a greenery arrangement, with family sitting in the front row. They also added other personal touches—for instance, a rose handoff for their mothers and grandmothers, to express their love and appreciation, as a vocalist sang. And during the reception, they served the bride’s favorite meal: brunch, including shrimp and grits, as well as chicken and waffles.
