Let Them Eat Art in Maplewood | July 11
It’s the 20th year of Maplewood’s Let Them Eat Art celebration. The name makes cheeky reference to the phrase supposedly uttered by Marie Antoinette, admonishing breadless peasants to eat cake instead. The mood is whimsical, and the arts are at the fore, with more than 70 artists demonstrating and selling their work. Enjoy live art demonstrations, music, shopping, kids’ activities, and, of course, food and drink. 6–10 p.m., downtown Maplewood.

Soulard Bastille Day Celebration | July 12
On Saturday, Soulard Saint Louis, the Soulard Restoration Group, and the Soulard Business Association gather in the city neighborhood that wears our French heritage most of all. The organizations nominate a king and queen, but the honor is short-lived—they’ll be “beheaded” in Soulard Market Park after the local peasants chase them through the neighborhood. Afterward, the Soulard Summer Concert Series kicks off at 6 p.m. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. Soulard Market Park.

SLAM Social—Roaring | July 11
Saint Louis Art Museum’s swanky show Roaring: Art, Fashion, and the Automobile in France, 1918-1939 makes a pretty great backdrop for a Bastille Day celebration. The party goes from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. with free entry and a cash bar. One Fine Arts Drive.
