Big Cedar Lodge |  Ridgedale, Missouri

Camp Long Creek, an extension of Big Cedar Lodge, is located near the banks of Table Rock Lake. Guests can choose from luxury tents, shepherd huts, or cabins. The tents have wood floors and interior walls, a chandelier, a private outdoor tub, and a deck with chairs where guests can enjoy views of the lake. Formal dining options are available onboard a luxury yacht, or for something simpler, you can visit the canteen located in a vintage Airstream. With five golf courses, outdoor pools, a lazy river, and a spa, there’s no shortage of activities to keep guests busy. Prices for luxury tents begin at $385 per night.

Camp Aramoni | Tonica, Illinois

Located on a former brickyard just 90 minutes outside Chicago, Camp Aramoni is where “nature meets luxury.” The 11 safari tents can accommodate six guests each and are equipped with air conditioning, heat, an en-suite bathroom, a refrigerator, and a personal bonfire pit. Breakfast, dinner, nightly s’mores, and firewood are included in the tent rate. The original blacksmith shop, which dates back to 1870, is available for weddings and other events. Prices range from $500–$550 per night. 

Dome Town | Stanton, Kentucky

If treehouses are your thing, then Dome Town might be a perfect dream getaway. Located near Red River Gorge, this glamping spot features three domed tents that are elevated on individual decks in the middle of a forest. Hiking up the stairs and across a suspension walkway with your luggage will be the first of many adventures in this space. There are lounging nets and a separate dome with two full baths and a wash station. The domes can be rented out separately or together. Dome Town also has small units that are perched or suspended on the upper sandstone cliffs of the gorge. Prices begin at $236 per night.

The Fields of Michigan | South Haven, Michigan

With its idyllic location in a blueberry farm, The Fields is an oasis just 3 miles from Lake Michigan. There are 10 luxury safari tents on the property, each equipped with a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, an electric fireplace for the winter, and an air conditioner for warm summer months. In addition to the massages that are available at the Fields Spa, guests can taste a selection of wines while enjoying a charcuterie board, take a cocktail class, ride bikes, pick blueberries, or arrange for a private dinner. Prices begin at $299 per night.

Camp Wandawega | Elkhorn, Wisconsin

What was at one time a getaway for Chicago mobsters is now a vintage-inspired camping destination. The rustic safari-style tents, called canvas cabins, fit with the “no-frills” vibe. There are also neighboring cabins, a bunkhouse, a modern house, and three Boy Scout–style platform tents. Keeping with the rustic vibe, Camp Wandawega created a “Manifesto of Low Expectations” to remind guests of the true camp-like experience. Reservations are made through Airbnb, and prices vary depending on the accommodation.

Under Canvas | Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

In the heart of the Smoky Mountains, Under Canvas offers a scenic glamping experience with spacious, safari-inspired tents that blend luxury with nature. The tents range in size, from cozy accommodations for two to expansive suites that include an attached kids’ tent for family-friendly stays. Set on 182 acres of wooded terrain, guests can explore the grounds, participate in the morning yoga classes, or enjoy live music. On-site dining at Embers Restaurant allows you to savor a delicious meal without leaving the property. Under Canvas is located 10 miles from Gatlinburg. Prices begin at $179 per night.

Beyond the Midwest

Zion Wildflower Resort | Virgin, Utah

The newly opened Zion Wildflower Resort offers a luxurious outdoor retreat with safari-style tents, private bungalows, and covered wagons that kids are sure to love. Nestled among the red sandstone cliffs, the resort feels like a desert oasis with stunning views. Guests can enjoy comfortable bedding, modern bathhouses, an outdoor pool and hot tub, fire pits, and a variety of games and activities for the whole family. Located a few minutes from the entrance of Zion National Park, the resort serves as the perfect base for exploring the park and surrounding area.  Prices begin at $199 per night. 

Collective Vail | Vail, Colorado

Located 25 miles west of Vail, Collective Vail offers a remote outdoor experience on a working ranch in the Colorado mountains. Guests can choose from two types of luxury tents: Summit tents, featuring a king-size bed, en-suite bathroom, and private deck, or journey tents with a queen-size bed and communal bathrooms. Guests can spend their days horseback riding or fishing, while evenings include wine tastings and farm-to-table dinners. Prices begin at $500 per night.

CampV | Naturita, Colorado

Creativity and community are at the heart of CampV, a boutique camp near Telluride and Moab that was founded to bring art and nature together. Guests can explore art installations on the property, relax by the lake, or take a yoga class or two. Accommodations include cabins, luxurious tents, Airstreams, RV sites, and jupes, a tent-like structure made from canvas and aluminum. Prices begin at $165 per night. 

Desert of Maine Campground | Freeport, Maine

The Desert of Maine Campground in Freeport, Maine, offers a unique camping experience at the edge of sand dunes formed by glacial activity. Accommodations range from cabins and tents to domes, all situated around a bathhouse and a lawn game area. In addition to camping, guests can take an educational tour of the 20 acres of sand dunes or tour on their own after 6 p.m. Although the campground feels secluded, it’s conveniently located just outside Freeport and 20 minutes from Portland. Prices begin at $79 per night.
