Where to Celebrate Halloween in St. Louis

Still deciding how to celebrate All Hallows’ Eve? Here are a dozen options.

October 27–30 | Boo at the Zoo Nights and Spooky Saturday

The zoo will be replete with caverns, giant spiderwebs, fairyland forests, and more this weekend. From 5:30–8:30 p.m. every night through October 30, costumed kids can learn about the zoo’s creepier animals and participate in animal-related activities and craft stations. Families who want to see the zoo’s haunted attractions during the day (and at no charge) can visit Saturday from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. for Spooky Saturday. Boo at the Zoo nights cost $6 for zoo members, $7 for non-members, $1 discount for kids in costume. 5:30–8:30 p.m. Through October 30. Free parking after 5:30 p.m.

October 27–30 | Halloween at Grant’s Farm

Grant’s Farm is decorated with ghouls and lights during its popular Halloween event. Bring your flashlight to search for animals during the Dark Deer Park Ride; pet the farm’s goats; and enjoy ice cream, snacks, brats, and adult beverages. The parakeets, camels, and pony rides are not accessible during Halloween Nights. The farm’s parking lot will close when it reaches capacity. Your best bet: Go on Thursday or Sunday, or arrive early on Friday or Saturday. $20 per car on Friday and Saturday, $15 per car on Thursday and Sunday. 5:30–10 p.m., gates close at 9 p.m. Thursday–Sunday until October 30.

October 28 | Spirits In The Garden

Enjoy all spirits—both ominous and alcoholic—during the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Halloween celebration. Compete in a costume contest, chat with paranormal investigators, and find “Wicked Plants” in a scavenger hunt. Local distilleries will be offering drink and food samples, included in the ticket price. $35, $25 for garden members, $15 for designated drivers. 6–9 p.m. Missouri Botanical Garden, 4344 Shaw.

October 28 | 5th Annual Haunted Heights Halloween Bash

Three Sixty’s rooftop bar is one of the city’s best patios. The only thing that could make it better? Halloween costumes and drink specials. 8 p.m.–close. Three Sixty, 1 S Broadway.

October 28 & 29 | St. Charles’ Legends and Lanterns and Pumpkin Glow

St. Charles looks to the 1910s–1930s to inspire their nostalgic Halloween fest. The event will include scarecrows, hayrides, and 13 “ghostly guests” along historic Main Street. From 5–8 p.m. both nights, hundreds of glowing pumpkins will be set up along St. Charles’ Historic Main Street as part of the city’s Pumpkin Glow. Stores will be open late to accommodate visitors. Free. Legends and Lanterns, October 28, 5–8 p.m., October 29, 11–8 p.m. Pumpkin Glow, October 28 & 29, 5–8 p.m. Historic Main Street, 230 S. Main.

October 29 & 30 | Fright Fest at Six Flags St. Louis

If it gives any indication of the theme park’s scariness during Fright Fest, Six Flags advises that only individuals over age 13 attend. The park will have haunted rides, performances, themed scare zones, and ghoulish creatures. Cost included with price of regular admission; some attractions cost extra. Six Flags St. Louis, 4900 Six Flags.

October 29 | Halloween in the Central West End

Heralded as one of the city’s best street parties, Halloween in the Central West End always draws some of the best costumes during its nighttime costume contest. (We don’t like to brag, but our dining editor once claimed the top prize.) During the day, don’t miss specials from area bars and restaurants, a pet costume contest at 1 p.m., live music beginning at 2 p.m., and more. Free. 11 a.m.–midnight. Euclid and Maryland.

October 29 | St. Louis Brewers Guild Halloween Party

Sample beer and food from dozens of St. Louis breweries, listen to live music, go trick-or-treating, and participate in a costume contest. If you play your cards right, you might even get a chance to climb aboard the Hefe Ride, a “hayride with kegs.” $45, $5 for designated drivers. 1–5 p.m. Lafayette Park.

October 29 | Monster Bash in The Grove

Bars, clubs, and restaurants along Manchester will participate in this energetic street party. Pub crawlers will have the opportunity to win cash prizes. The Teenage Dirtbags perform beginning at 7:30 p.m. Free. 6–11:55 p.m. The Grove, Manchester.

October 29 | Freakshow at Ballpark Village

Ballpark Village is partnering with costume superstore Johnnie Brock’s Dungeon to host a creepy, carnival-themed, adults-only party. Watch fire breathers and freak performances, and listen to jams provided by a costumed DJ. Celeb judges will be on hand to select the winner of the $4,000 prize during the costume contest. $40, 7–11 p.m. Ballpark Village, 601 Clark.

October 29 | Halloween Costume Party Riverboat Cruise

Celebrating Halloween aboard a riverboat on the Mississippi is about as St. Louis as it gets. Participate in a costume contest on a party cruise, and experience some of the best views of downtown. Appetizers, a cash bar, and Halloween treats will be available. $26. The cruise boards at 8 p.m., departs at 8:30 p.m., and returns at 11 p.m. Gateway Arch Riverboats.

October 29 | Lemp Mansion Halloween Bash

The historic property was originally home to William J. Lemp and his family, the owners of Lemp Brewery and the players in a tragic family history. The 33-room home is purported to be haunted, so it’s the perfect location for a night of live entertainment, drinks, and costumes. $65 in advance, $75 at door. 8–12:30 a.m. Lemp Mansion, 3322 Demenil Place, 314-664-8024.
