Spend an evening back in time with St. Louis Art Museum’s Art Hill Film Series—a tradition since 2010—which transforms the museum’s front lawn into a picturesque cinematic experience. This year’s film lineup includes time-travel classic Back to the Future on July 12 and musical comedy Meet Me in St. Louis on July 19.
Each weekend, movie-goers can revel in the summer ambience starting at 6 p.m., with screenings beginning after dark at 9 p.m. The Food Truck Fest will be presented by Sauce Magazine and feature different trucks at each film for a unique eating experience. Personal food and drink are welcome, so feel free to bring your own picnic basket and cooler. In the middle of the summer heat, keep yourself hydrated with free drinking water available at the top of the hill.

SLAM’s director of learning and engagement, Amanda Thompson Rundahl, leads the team at the museum that plans and hosts the Art Hill Film Series. She has enjoyed learning about new movies every year and putting together an evening for the community to enjoy art and film.
“Hands down, my very favorite part is when the sun goes down and the movie starts—to see people from throughout St. Louis who have come out to enjoy the experience together in such a beautiful spot,” says Thompson Rundahl.
For seating, Thompson Rundahl encourages blankets and lawn chairs. Viewing spots are first-come, first-served, and lawn sections closest to the screen at the front are for blankets only. She also recommends bringing sunscreen, bug spray, and water bottles.
Back to the Future (PG)
In this classic, Marty McFly is sent back in time to 1955 via a car-turned-time-machine built by wacky friend and scientist Dr. Emmett “Doc” Brown. When he accidentally alters the moment his parents were to fall in love, his very existence is at risk, and he must restore his family and find a way back to 1985. Back to the Future will be screened on July 12 at 9 p.m.
Meet Me in St. Louis (NR)
A mix of romance, comedy, coming-of-age stories, and technicolor magic makes Meet Me in St. Louis a perfect family-friendly musical. The film opens the summer before the 1904 World’s Fair, and follows the Smith family up to the historic event. It features Wizard of Oz star Judy Garland and includes the iconic holiday tune “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” Meet Me in St. Louis will be screened on July 19 at 9 p.m.
Severe weather cancellations will be announced on Facebook, Instagram, and slam.org. For more information, visit slam.org/art-hill-film-series/.
