Extend the look and feel of your home into your garage with Closet Factory’s custom garage offerings

Learn how Closet Factory in St. Louis transforms garages from traditional car storage spaces into personalized cozy living spaces with custom storage solutions, flooring options, and smart technology integration.

You might know Closet Factory for its beautiful custom closets, but the company is also leading the way in St. Louis when it comes to creating the garage of your dreams.

Long gone are the days when the garage was just a space to park cars and store junk. The garage has become an extension of a home’s living space, according to Closet Factory St. Louis owner Blair Fortner. “We still have very traditional utility garage clients, but we’re seeing that number become fewer and fewer,” says Fortner. “What we’re hearing more now is when people pull their car into the garage after a long day, they want to feel like they’re already at home.”

So how does the team at Closet Factory transform a garage into a cozy living space? It’s all in the details, says Fortner. As an all-inclusive solution, Closet Factory can not only help with customized storage cabinets but also flooring and wall organization to help bring a space together. The design team’s vast array of embellishments, finishes, and accessories combine with layered architectural details to finish the look.

“We’re seeing a lot more customization, whether that’s in custom colors to match the interior of the rest of the home or things like texture and unique lighting features,” Fortner says. “Even in terms of the cabinets, people are going more modern, using jewel tones or grays in their storage systems that look more like the interior of their homes.”

Mixed metals are also popular in garages. Many customers in traditional homes are bringing brass accessories into the garage to enhance cohesiveness with the home’s interior. Customers are also picking hardware styles that match the rest of the home, whether a modern, traditional, or transitional style.

Epoxy floors are also making a comeback, Fortner says. Where most people were fine with concrete, some customers are now asking for epoxy flooring to add an element of design or customization. “The designs incorporate a lot of different color combinations, not just the monochrome, high-gloss look you typically think of in a garage,” Fortner says.

Sports team colors are still popular, whether someone wants to show off their favorite professional team or a Mizzou-inspired workbench. Smart technology is also popular, with homeowners wanting electronics synced up to Google or Alexa.

One thing that’s remained the same over Closet Factory’s 35-plus years, however, is the company’s dedication to providing storage and space solutions for each client. “We work with every homeowner to figure out what they need,” says Fortner. “I have kids, for example, so mine would be toy storage. My in-laws? They have different storage needs these days. It really depends on the client. We work with them to bring in the bits that make it more personal.”
