In 1918, Angus Tulloch Lochhead founded his company and began producing vanilla extract. Three generations later, the Lochhead Manufacturing Company, run by Lochhead brothers George and John, still produces high-end vanillas and vanilla flavorings, though it has since moved from its original location on Second Street to a spot not far from the Anheuser-Busch brewery in South City. Over the years the company has developed more than 100 different variations of vanilla to be used in everything from bakery goods to brûlée. The vanilla is found in most Schnucks, Dierbergs and Straub’s. For more information visit www.lochheadvanilla.com.
