We’re looking for an enterprising editor to join our growing company. The ideal candidate should have the ability to develop engaging niche digital products—from conception to execution—that resonate with audiences. As the lead for the Family vertical, among other potential topic areas, the candidate should have a passion for providing relevant content for families, with a fun and empathetic voice that can relate to local caregivers; whether highlighting memorable experiences or providing expert insights, this person could help children, parents, and grandparents live their best lives in St. Louis. The candidate should be a strong, agile project manager and savvy strategist. This role requires excellent client communication skills, creative problem-solving, and seamless collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Serve as key strategist for evolving niche verticals, driving content strategy and production, as well as identifying and executing growth opportunities.
- Help develop and oversee a range of niche verticals, both new and existing, from conception to execution, with an eye on engagement and continuous improvement.
- Serve as lead for Family vertical, among other possible niches, including newsletters and related content across channels, in addition to engaging with audiences in new ways, such as podcasts, partnerships, and events.
- Oversee high-level strategy and ideation, pitching and developing content, audio and video creation, and more.
- Generate story ideas, and leverage vertical expertise, keyword research, and reader feedback. Stay informed of important topics, events, and trends.
- Help identify key industry storylines, monitor vertical developments, and work with the team to plan coverage.
- Plan, report, write, edit, and proofread a range of articles across platforms.
- Work collaboratively with reporters and writers to cover a range of topic areas across platforms
- Track analytics to gauge what stories are resonating with readers and provide data-driven insights for content direction.
- Represent the magazine in the community through event attendance and possible media appearances.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- At least three years’ experience writing, reporting and/or editing.
- Deadline-oriented time-management skills; ability to turn around stories on tight deadlines
- Strong editing, reporting, and writing skills.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to assign and manage multiple stories at once.
- A track record of producing high-quality journalism in a fast-paced news environment.
- Ability to build relationships with sources and grasp complex subjects.
- Experience overseeing niche newsletters is a plus.
- Experience reporting on a wide range of topics
- Collaborative, with experience working across teams to produce quality content.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the digital and social media landscape.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
- Strong digital news knowledge and aptitude.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism, English or similar field.
- Growth mindset and a positive attitude.
